The first time in kindergarten: a milestone full of emotions

The very first day of school... For many parents, it is a moment accompanied by a mix of pride, excitement, and a touch of melancholy. Because how is it possible that that little person, who just recently learned to walk, is already on their way to kindergarten with a little backpack? Whether you shed a tear at the school gate or count down the days until you have your hands free again — the first day of school is a big step, for your child and for you. Below, we share some tips to make the first day of school a little easier.

Tip 1

Bereid je kindje voor. Er zijn booklets about this theme to read aloud.

Try to have your child go to bed at a fixed time a week in advance, so that he gets used to this routine.

Tip 2

Clothing: practical and comfortable clothing ensures that your child can move comfortably. Elastic waist pants, easy T-shirts and sweaters, handy shoes.

One rain jacket leuke regenlaarsjes come in handy in our country as well!

Tip 3

The book bag: a backpack is the most practical, but be sure not to choose one that is too large. Make sure it fits nicely on the back. Most backpacks have adjustable straps so you can ensure it hangs at the right height.

Especially in winter, due to the thick coats, an extra borstriempje handy. This way, the backpack doesn't slip off the shoulder straps.

Tip 4

What goes in the school bag?

1. A handy drinkfles , BPA free, which opens and closes easily. The water bottle does not need to be filled to the top. This makes the backpack unnecessarily heavy and in most schools, the water bottles can be filled at the tap.

2. A sturdy and leak-proof brooddoos, possibly with distribution  so you can also include sliced vegetables.

3. One or more snack boxes of storage bags: one for fruit, one for a cookie, depending on the school's guidelines.

4. One wetbag with easy spare clothes (an accident can happen quickly), a diaper pants if necessary, or even better a oefenbroekje.

5. One cuddly toy In the backpack, your child can always find comfort.

Tip 5

Don't make the farewell too long. Follow the instructions of the teacher, he/she usually knows best when you should leave.

Tell your child that you will come back to pick him/her up.

The first kindergarten class is a big step, and your child will feel more confident with your encouragement and involvement.

We hope these tips help you prepare for your child's first kindergarten class. A good start ensures an enjoyable and educational school time!
